Three suspected hijackers nabbed in PE

Port Elizabeth police have arrested three suspects aged between 15 and 26 for the possession of suspected stolen property and the illegal possession of a firearm.

Capt Sandra Janse Van Rensburg says members from the Cash-in-Transit Hijacking Task Team immediately responded when they received information about a suspected hijacked vehicle.

She says they went to Kenako Mall in search of a silver Opel Corsa on Friday morning, and spotted the vehicle.

Janse van Rensburg says they ordered the occupants to get out, and then noticed a firearm behind the driver's seat.

She says a .38 special revolver, of which the serial number was filed off, was confiscated, and will be sent for ballistic tests.

It was later established that the vehicle was hijacked on the 2nd of May in 7th Ave, Summerstrand.

All three suspects are being detained, and will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrate's court on Monday.
