Three people are reported missing in the OR Tambo District Municipality in the Eastern Cape, following heavy rain on Thursday.
The District Municipality says disaster teams were dispatched to Rhole Village in Lusikisiki after the reports of the missing people were received.
Spokesperson, Zimkhita Macingwane, says Thursday's heavy downpour damaged infrastructure, houses, and recreational facilities while some businesses have been flooded.
The inclement weather also led to power outages in Port St Johns, affecting the Port St Johns and Mzimvubu Water Treatment Works.
Damage assessments are still underway.
Meanwhile, a section of the R61 near Isinuka has washed away after heavy rains resulted in a mudslide.
The damage was caused about 30 km outside of Port St Johns leaving only one lane open.
A spokesperson for the Department of Transport in the Eastern Cape Unathi Bingqose has urged road users to be extra careful when travelling in the area and said that a full assessment of the damage will be done.
Meanwhile, the South African Weather Services (SAWS) has issued an Orange Level 6 warning for more disruptive rain leading to flooding over Nyandeni, Port St Johns and Ngquza Hill local municipalities.
