The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (the Hawks) said three men appeared in the East London Magistrate’s Court on Monday for dealing in drugs.
Hawks spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda said they arrested Laurence Benjamin, 26, Zavian Plaatjies, 30, and Elroy Van Schalkwyk, 33, on Friday. The men were suspected to be members of a drug-dealing syndicate in East London, Eastern Cape.
They were all released on R5,000 bail each.
“The trio were arrested as a result of a multi-disciplinary operation involving the Hawks, Buffalo Flats police and the East London Crime Intelligence. During the arrest the suspects were found in possession of 474 mandrax tablets and 2 grams tik worth the value of R16, 824,” said Netshiunda.
The case was postponed to March 28, for further investigation.
