A 15-year-old learner from the Great Brak River Secondary School was due to appear in the local Magistrates' Curt on Tuesday, following the assault of a 17-year-old female bus prefect.
Police said the suspect was arrested after the bus driver drove to the local police station with a bus full of learners.
On closer inspection police found the unconscious bus prefect lying on the floor of the bus.
School principal Angela Muller said apart from taking disciplinary steps against the suspect, they also called on local neighbourhood watch members to patrol the school bus daily.
Pieter Frans from Greenhaven Neighbourhood watch said his members were now on the bus every day.
Frans said after a learner was stabbed on the bus two years ago, his neighbourhood watch launched a similar initiative. He said it seemed to help maintain discipline on the bus and following the latest incident, they would now continue doing so.
