Police in Gqeberha (PE) have opened up an inquest docket after three people burned to death in a fire on Wednesday morning.
A police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says two adults and a one-year-old infant died when the building they were living in caught fire in Sidwell at 4 am.
She says it is suspected that the fire started at a scrap business in Hart Street and spread to a clothing and furniture business, situated in the same building.
Captain Janse van Rensburg says the deceased persons lived above the business which operated from Commercial Road.
Atlas Security responded to the call at 4 am when their client, the nearby Caltex garage, pressed their panic button.
The bodies were discovered after the fire was extinguished.
Their names will only be released once the next of kin is informed.
