Two armed robbers and a security guard have been killed following a botched robbery at the Rhino Cash and Carry store at Bizana in the Eastern Cape.
Captain Kaya Tonjeni said the four gunmen struck at around 6 o'clock on Thursday morning They started shooting at the security guards on duty at the premises but fled the scene without taking any money.
Captain Tonjeni said one of the guards died of his injuries while his colleague was admitted to hospital in a serious condition.
Tonjeni said police followed up on information from the public and tracked the suspects to where they were hiding in a bushy area on the outskirts of Bizana.
A shoot out ensued in which two of the suspects were killed. The other two suspects were wounded in the firefight and are under police guard in hospital.
Tonjeni said they would face charges of attempted robbery, murder and attempted murder.Three firearms were recovered at the scene.
