Three killed in accidents on N2 and N6

One person was killed following a head-on collision on the N6 between Queenstown and Cathcart on Monday morning.

The accident happened about 10km from Queenstown and involved a truck and light motor vehicle.

One person was slightly injured and taken to the hospital.

Meanwhile, two people were killed following a head-on collision on the N2 between Mthatha and Qumbu on Sunday afternoon.

A spokesperson for the Department of Transport Khuselwa Rantjie says a Toyota Bakkie with four occupants and a Mercedes Benz with one occupant collided head-on near Sibangweni, outside Mthatha.

Rantjie says it is believed that the bakkie was overtaking a huge flow of traffic and faced oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with the Mercedes Benz travelling from Mthatha.

A man and a woman in the bakkie were killed instantly while two other occupants sustained critical injuries and were transported to Nelson Mandela Hospital for medical attention.

The driver of the Mercedes Benz sustained slight injuries and was taken to St Marys Private Hospital.

A case of culpable homicide has been opened and will be investigated by local authorities.
