Three people have been killed in two separate road accidents in the Butterworth area in the Eastern Cape at the weekend.
Police spokesperson, Captain Jackson Manatha says two people died and two others were seriously injured when two cars collided head-on near Zizamele township at Butterworth on Saturday evening.
He says the driver of one of the cars and a passenger in the second car died at the scene.
Both were men in their late 20s.
Two other men, who were seriously injured, were taken to Butterworth Hospital.
Manatha says in another accident on Saturday afternoon, a male pedestrian was fatally injured, when he was hit by a vehicle on the N2 near Butterworth.
He says the man was in his early 30s and died at the scene.
Police are investigating cases of culpable homicide.
