 Three people have been killed in an accident on the 2nd Brakfontein turnoff in the direction of Koemga - about 20-kilometres outside East London.

Police Captain Stephen Marais says a bakkie and sedan were involved in Tuesday morning's accident.

A man, a woman and a 6 year old child in the car died on impact.

One child survived and was taken to a nearby hospital.

The driver of the bakkie was treated for a head injury.

A case of culpable homicide is being investigated
