The Eastern Cape Health Department has confirmed the shooting of three initiates at a school in Ngqamakwe.
Spokesperson, Sizwe Kupelo, said the motive for the killings in the early hours of Tuesday morning is not yet known.
He says police have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Kupelo said the deceased were aged 19, 20, and 22.
He says the department has dispatched medical officers to the scene, while forensic investigators have removed the bodies for further investigation.
Their names have not yet been released.
