File

Eastern Cape police are investigating the shooting of four brothers at an initiation school at Ngqamakwe in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Police said three of the brothers, two of whom were initiates, were killed, while a fourth, aged 22, was wounded in the upper body and taken to hospital.

Spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu said their grandfather was alerted at around 01:15 to the shooting in the Ngcwazi Administrative Area.

She said members of the community went to investigate and found the bodies of two 18-year-old men and their older brother, aged 26.

"The suspect is unknown at this stage and the motive is yet to be established.

"Police are appealing to anyone who can assist in the investigation to contact SAPS Ngqamakwe on 073 272 9874 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or the nearest police station," Naidu said.

She also said that the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, COGTA, is working with the police, who are investigating three cases of murder and one of attempted murder.

"The police are committed to bringing the perpetrator to justice and we will do everything in our power to ensure accountability for this heinous act. The loss of young lives especially from one family, is devastating and we convey our condolences to the family," said provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Nomthetheleli Mene.
