Port Elizabeth police arrested three gang affiliates on Monday night and confiscated three firearms.
Colonel Priscilla Naidu says members of the Visible Gang Intervention Team assisted by PE Flying Squad and SAPS Bethelsdorp members responded to information received of possible illegal firearms at a house in Bellflower Street in Bethelsdorp.
The surrounding area was strategically cordoned off and as police approached the house, a group of men who were standing outside started to disperse.
Three men then started running away with police in hot pursuit.
The first suspect aged 38 was seen throwing a firearm into a neighbour's yard as he ran.
Colonel Naidu says the same suspect ran into another yard in the back street and tossed another firearm onto the roof of a house.
The second suspect aged 28 handed a firearm to the third suspect who also tossed a firearm onto the roof of the same house.
All three suspects who are affiliated to the Spotbouer gang were arrested and the three firearms - 2 pistols and a revolver with ammunition - were seized.
The revolver was reported stolen in Humansdorp in August 2016.
The suspects were detained on charges of possession of prohibited firearm, illegal possession of a firearm and illegal possession of ammunition. They are expected to appear in court soon.
