An autopsy will be conducted on the body of a 5-year-old girl from George that was found late on Monday afternoon.
The girl, Natalie Baartman was last seen alive near her home in Pacaltsdorp on Saturday.
Her mother only reported her missing on Monday morning after which police launched an intensive search for her.
Police spokesperson, Malcolm Pojie says a police officer found Baartman's half naked body in a field, 80 meters from her Syferfontein home.
Pojie says Baartman had an open head wound and says they are investigating the possibility that she was raped.
He says police will also investigate why Baartman's mother only reported her missing a day and a half after she was last seen alive.
