Three people died a gruesome death following a collision between two vehicles on the Addo Road in Gqeberha on Tuesday night.
Police spokesperson, Captain Gerda Swart, says it is alleged that the driver of a silver VW Polo, with five occupants, lost control on the Addo Road before colliding with a Scania truck at 11pm.
She says both vehicles caught alight on impact and three people in the car perished in the flames, while two others, a male and female, were able to escape.
Swart says the truck driver was not injured.
She says a culpable homicide docket has been opened for investigation.
Police are appealing to anyone who can assist in identifying the victims to come forward.
Captain Swart says the two passengers who escaped the blaze are currently in hospital and detectives have not yet been able to take their statements.
