Three police members from Nort West were killed, after their vehicle collided with a stray horse, shortly after midnight.
Police Spokesperson Captain Khaya Tonjeni says the members are part of a Task Team investigating a case in Mthatha.
He says three police members died at the scene, while a fourth was critically injured and taken to Mthatha hospital.
Tonjeni says police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
Meanwhile a memorial service will be held on Tuesday morning for the five policemen who were killed in last weeks deadly attack.
Several leaders and government officials are expected to attend.
