Three men have been arrested at the Donhe Institution outside Stutterheim on charges of stock theft.
Lieutenant Siphokazi Mawisa says police followed up on information about a truck which was transporting eleven cattle from the institution on Sunday night.
Quick response from the police resulted in the arrest of the suspects and the confiscation of the truck and the cattle.
Another three suspects managed to escape and are still at large.
Mawisa says the cattle have been returned to their owner after he was able to positively identify them.
The suspects will appear in the Stutterheim Magistrate Court on Tuesday on charges of Stock Theft.
