Police in Port Elizabeth have arrested three men who were allegedly part of a protest in Kuyga on Monday.
Spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the men aged between 18 and 25 were allegedly part of a group who barricaded Mission Road and Greenbushes in the early hours of this morning with rocks and burning tyres.
She says they are detained under the Criminal matters Amendment Act.
Janse Van Rensburg says Cape Road was initially blocked at about 4 am but Public Order Police were quick on the scene and used teargas to disperse the crowd.
Police will remain in the area to monitor the situation.
The arrested men will appear in the St Albans Court on Tuesday.
Police says members of the public have a right to protest but damage to infrastructure will not be tolerated.
