Eastern Cape police have arrested three suspects in connection with the abduction and murder of a woman in the Peddie area.
Their alleged victim was 25 year old Noluthabo Maliza who was allegedly abducted when her husband's car was stolen outside the Peddie Magistrate's Court on Friday.
Police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender, says the breakthrough in the case was made on Wednesday.
“Two of the suspects aged 24 and 19 were arrested in Peddie, whilst the third aged 27 was traced to Mdantsane and arrested,” she said.
“Two suspects will appear in the Peddie Magistrates Court tomorrow (Thurs) whilst the third will make his appearance on Friday in the same court,” she added.
The Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Cape Lt Gen Liziwe Ntshinga commended the task team on the swift arrests and said "I am extremely pleased that we arrested those responsible for the senseless murder of this young woman, Govender said.
In an earlier statement Govender said that Maliza’s husband had told police that he had parked his vehicle outside the Peddie Magistrate’s Court last week and left his wife inside the vehicles with the keys.
“When he returned to the place where he parked his car, both the car and his wife was nowhere to be seen. The matter was reported to the local SAPS, who immediately started a search for the 25 year old woman and the vehicle,” she said.
‘The search continued on Saturday morning and the vehicle was located at the Qamnyana Administration Area in the Tyefu Policing Area. During the investigation and search of the vicinity, the body of a female identified as the missing woman was found close by,” Govender said.
