The United Covid-19 workers in the Eastern Cape have rejected Finance MEC, Mlungisi Mvoko's budget speech and called for the extension of their contracts.

On Wednesday, MEC Mvoko allocated over 30% of the provincial budget to the Health Department.

However, the spokesperson for the disgruntled frontline workers, Mzikazi Nkata says they were told their contracts would not be renewed due to lack of funds.

She says they do not believe that there is no money to retain their jobs.

Nkata says they have given the Department until next week Tuesday to renew their contracts.

According to @Groundup more than 5 000 health workers will be unemployed by the end of the month.
