Thousands of frontline workers in SA already vaccinated

Over 15 000 healthcare workers have been vaccinated across South Africa in the first 5 days since the Johnson & Johnson vaccines were rolled out on Wednesday last week.

Health Minister, Zweli Mkhize says by Sunday evening, the number of frontline healthcare workers vaccinated currently stands at 15 388.

Dr Mkhize also announced that there has been an increase of 1 429 new cases over the latest 24-hour period.

Furthermore, 113 more deaths have been recorded with the North-West accounting for 69 new related deaths and the Eastern Cape just two.

This brings the cumulative number of deaths to 49 053.

The country’s recovery rate now stands at 93.8%.
