More than five thousand schools across the province have been declared ready for re-opening based on a school readiness assessment report released last week.
This was announced in a statement released by the office of the Premier, Lubabalo Mabuyane, in response to the coronavirus pandemic on Monday.
Sixty-seven schools were however declared partially ready and 17 schools not ready.
Meanwhile, another 84 schools have not yet opened due to them not having any water, while 34 have no ablution facilities.
The report further revealed that a total of 196 schools across the province’s 12 Districts have closed due to covid-19 infections, while 132 schools remain closed and will open after three days of screening and decontamination is done.
The Eastern Cape’s Education Department is, however, working on the matter and will provide updated information as soon as available.
