The popular Christmas in July festival, planned for this weekend in Hogsback, has been cancelled.
A small group of Hogsback residents protested in the main street of Hogsback on Thursday night. They cut power cables and the small Eastern Cape village is now without power. Festival organiser
Shane Eads says they've decided to cancel the event in a show of solidarity with the local community, who've been made promises which have not been kept."As the Nkonkobe Municipality is a sponsor of this event it would be inappropriate for us to spend money on Christmas lights and the festival and not bring basic services to our village. We are advising festival goers to please not come. We are waiting for the mayor to arrive" he said.
A more disruptive protest broke out in June when protesters in Hogsback disconnected the power supply to the local water works and flushed out the water from the reservoir, leaving the town dry.
