Thief caught red handed stealing from communal water taps

A 35-year-old man was caught red-handed on Thursday night stealing copper brass fittings from municipal taps.

Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says members from Bethelsdorp were walking around their perimeters of the station after 11 pm when they heard noises coming from the communal site.

She says the suspect was caught in the act, removing copper brass fittings from the taps that were installed by the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro to assist the community during the water crisis.

Police found 32 brass fittings in his possession.

He will appear in the Gelvandale Magistrates Court soon.
