The Mossel Bay Municipality alarmed at rise in crime at popular beach

The Mossel Bay Municipality says the increase in armed robberies at Diaz Beach is a cause for concern.

Residents in the area have fallen prey to a crime wave that has hit this popular beach.

The main street next to the beach area, Louis Fourie Road has also become a crime hotspot.

The spokesperson for the Mossel Bay Municipality, Harry Hill told Algoa FM News that the issue of safety in the area remains the responsibility of the police.

"It is a crime problem in terms of the South African Constitution, crime prevention is the duty of SAPS. No municipality can afford to employ a police force to work alongside or parallel with SAPS. The municipality puts up notice boards to warn people of the situation and in busier times we will also issue pamphlets to warn people of the dangers of that area."
