Rangers from the Tsitsikamma section of the Garden Route National Park (GRNP) have arrested 10 suspects involved in abalone poaching.
SANParks spokesperson, JP Louw says rangers observed a suspicious vehicle in the area at the weekend, and upon approaching, the suspects fled, leaving behind two bags with abalone.
He says the rangers notified the police, and after a thorough search of the surrounding area, 10 suspects were arrested while one managed to escape.
Louw says authorities seized 315 units of abalone with an estimated value of R90 000.
This marks the second successful abalone poaching arrest in the area this year, following an arrest in April involving a suspect from Jeffreys Bay.
The suspects are being detained by the police until their court appearance.
