Another major breakthrough in Lusikisiki massacre investigation

Easter Cape police have made yet another breakthrough in their investigation into the LUsikisiki Massacre by arresting two more suspects and seizing high-calibre firearms they believed were used in the commission of the crime.

The latest suspects were arrested in Flagstaff for the possession of illegal firearms.

National Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe says the two men were arrested in Flagstaff on Thursday and will be charged with the possession of unlicensed firearms.

She says through intelligence and meticulous detective work, the pair was arrested.

Brigadier Mathe says three AK47 Automatic Rifles and a Steyr Mannlicher .243 rifle were seized.

She says they believe the weapons were moved to different locations.

The weapons will be sent for ballistic testing to confirm a link to the Lusikisiki massacre while police will also try and link it to other crimes.

Police now have seven suspects in custody.

The first suspect, Siphosoxolo Myekethe, 45 already appeared in court where he abandoned his bid for bail.

Four more men were arrested on Thursday in Port Shepstone and East London.

They are expected to appear in court on Friday.
