Ten people were killed and scores more injured in several accidents reported on Eastern Cape roads this past weekend.
The Eastern Cape Transport Department said five passengers were killed when a mini-bus taxi overturned on Sunday in Tsomo.
Department spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, said the taxi was travelling from a funeral in Ndabakazi to Cape Town when the accident happened.
The driver lost control of the vehicle after failed to negotiate on a sharp curve and the vehicle overturned. Five passengers died on the scene while 11 sustained injuries including the driver and taken to Cofimvaba hospital,” Binqose said.
Meanwhile, he said four people were killed and six injured when a light delivery vehicle with ten occupants crashed while trying to cross a bridge near Ngcobo.
Binqose said one man was killed and 14 others injured when a small truck ferrying soccer players from Mount Ayliff to Ntabankulu overturned on Saturday.
He said culpable homicide dockets were opened in all these cases.
