At least ten people, including two pedestrians, have lost their lives in five separate motor vehicle accidents in the Eastern Cape over the past twelve hours.
An accident on the R61 Road near the Ntlakwe location in Bizana claimed the lives of four people at around 7 pm on Saturday.
The provincial Transport Department said three cars, a bakkie, and two sedans were involved in the multi-vehicle pile-up.
The deceased were three females and a male.
In a separate incident on the R61 in Cofimvaba, three people died in a head-on collision involving an SUV and a sedan.
On the N10 between Klipfontein and Daggaboer's Neck, a Toyota Fortuner with two occupants overturned.
One of the occupants died, while the other sustained injuries.
According to the department, two pedestrians were also knocked down in two separate incidents at KwaBhaca and Bizana.
Spokesperson Unathi Binqose said cases of multiple homicides have been opened for each of the incidents.
