Ten arrests made at Koedoeskloof Landfill site

At least 10 undocumented foreign nationals have been arrested at the Koedoeskloof Landfill Site in Kariega.

A spokesperson for the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Mamela Ndamase says this was a result of a joint operation with several roleplayers including the Metro police, Saps, Home Affairs and Security Services.

She says illegal shelters were also demolished and weapons confiscated.

Safety and Security Portfolio Head, Cllr Lawrence Troon said during the operation 15 illegally built shelters that were nothing more than illegal land invasions, were demolished.

The crime operation was also welcomed by MBM Public Health portfolio Head, Cllr Thsonono Buyeye.

"Our residents fear going to the Koedoeskloof Landfill site to dispose of their waste because they get mugged. We are trying to make our properties safer. These societal problems need all of us to work together as government stakeholders if we really want to see sustainable solutions," said MMC Buyeye.
