More than 1,500 of the 2,000-plus temmporary teachers without posts, have been reappointed by the Eastern Cape Education Department.
Democratic Alliance MPL, Edmund van Vuuren, says this will relieve the pressure on those schools with a dire shortage of teachers.
He says the shortages are in critical subjects, such as Mathematics, Physical Science, Accounting and English.
However, he says their biggest concern is the excess teachers who have not yet moved or are refusing to move to their new schools.
