The Eastern Cape Education Department has promised to pay temporary teachers who have not been paid since January, by no later than Friday.
This promise is contained in a written reply to a question in the Bhisho legislature from the Democratic Alliance.
Education MEC Mandla Makapula, says the bottlenecks were caused by the withdrawal of the payment functions from district offices in an effort to minimise over-expenditure of payments to employees in the current financial year.
