Western Cape police are investigating cases of culpable homicide and theft of a motor vehicle, following the death of a 17-year-old in an accident in Calitzdorp on Sunday morning.
Spokesperson, Sergeant Christopher Spies says the vehicle was travelling on the R62 from Oudtshoorn to Calitzdorp when it collided with a wall in Voortrekker Road and overturned.
He says upon arrival at the scene, members found a bakkie with the body of the teenager still inside.
Spies says he sustained multiple injuries and was later declared dead by paramedics.
He says further investigations revealed that three other occupants of the vehicle fled the scene.
It was later established that the vehicle belonged to the local municipality, and was reported stolen.
The cause of the accident is unknown and the investigation continues.
