Port Elizabeth police are investigating a case of murder and three of attempted murder in what they believe were several drive-by shootings in the cities Northern Areas on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for police Colonel Priscilla Naidu says the body of a teenager was found in an open field at the corners of Mpuku Street and William Slammert Drive in Bethelsdorp on Tuesday evening with a gunshot wound in his back.
She says at the same time, there were reports of three separate shootings in which three people were injured, two teenagers aged 14 and 15, and a 24-year-old.
The alleged drive-by shootings took place in Phambile, Sweden and Romania Streets which are in close proximity of each other.
The Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga expressed her shock over the incident and instructed a task team to be set up immediately.
She urged community members to come forward with information.
