A fifteen-year-old girl has drowned at the Wild Coast Sun Casino's beach, while another young girl narrowly escaped death in a near drowning incident.
Netcare 911's Santi Steinmann says the incident happened on Thursday afternoon, when life guards noticed that the two girls were in difficulty while swimming in the sea, and rushed to their aid.
She says a NSRI rescue craft was also called to the scene.
Steinmann says the two were removed from the water and paramedics treated the fifteen-year-old girl for over an hour, but she was declared dead at the scene.
She says the other girl was treated and stabilised, before being transported to a nearby medical facility.
