The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality says gale force winds on Thursday have caused homes in informal settlements in Chris Hani and an area near Malabar to catch fire, and have also blown off a number of roofs.
Metro spokesperson, Marthie Nel says the Municipality's Fire and Disaster Management Services are on the scene, rendering services and giving support.
Meanwhile, a huge veldfire is raging in the Plettenberg Bay area, and the strong wind is hampering efforts to extinguish it.
A spokesperson for "Working on Fire" says the fire has been contained, and property is not in danger.
