A teenager who kidnapped a baby from a shopping centre in Mokopane last month has been sentenced to eight years in prison.
The 18-year-old Anna Matjila first appeared in court on the 15th of April where she was denied bail.
Police Spokesperson Maphure Manamela says her case was eventually hear in Tuesday and she was ultimately sentenced to eight years imprisonment.
Charges against her 23-year-old boyfriend were withdrawn, pending further investigation.
Matjila met the babies mother at the Mokopane shopping centre and offered to hold the baby so that the mother could eat her food. They then went into a supermarket together and Matjila, who was still holding the 6-week old baby, disappeared without being noticed.
The baby was later found unharmed in a village outside Polokwane.
