Police in George managed to track down the mother of a one-week-old baby girl who was found abandoned in the bushes in Knysna on Monday.
Spokesperson Captain Malcolm Pojie says just hours after launching an investigation the 17-year-old mother was traced to New Horizon in Plettenberg Bay.
He says the mother was traced after they consulted with the Knysna hospital on admissions in their maternity ward.
The teenager was immediately arrested and will spend the night behind bars.
The mother will make her first appearance in the Knysna Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
The infant is currently being treated in a local hospital in Knysna.
