Working on Fire

Multiple firefighting teams continue to battle two plantation fires in the Tsitsikamma region of the Eastern Cape.

The two fires started on Monday in the Coldstream and Koomansbos area of Tsitsikamma and initially forced the closure of the Tsitsikamma toll gate and the N2 in the area.

Working on Fire’s Nthabiseng Mokone says in a statement that the wildfires have already destroyed just over 3600 Hectares of commercial plantations and natural veld.

There are just over 142 firefighters and management from Working on Fire who have provided firefighting services to MTO and SANParks since Monday morning.

In addition, two Working on Fire Huey Helicopters and one fixed-wing spotter plane have been providing aerial firefighting services at these two fires.

On behalf of Working on Fire, Mokone also extended their thanks to the local communities and businesses for their continued support to all the firefighting personnel involved.
