Taxi services in the Eastern Cape are expected to grind to a halt on Friday.Santaco Eastern Cape has confirmed that its members will be meeting in King Williams Town on Friday for a march and motor procession to the Office of the Premier.Provincial secretary, Siyanda Mbanjwa, says the strike will inconvenience commuters but he says they're aiming it at government.
He spoke to Algoa FM News about the issues that brought them to this point."We have been trying to engage the department on the issuing of the operating licence that was illegally stopped by the MEC of Transport, Weziwe Tikana.
We have now exhausted all the avenues. We feel the language that the government only understands, is that when we go on strike, we attract their attention" he said.Mbanjwa says they've asked their affiliates to send two vehicle each to the protest for which he says they have permission.
He says they initially wanted to hold the protest on Wednesday but were given permission to hold the protest tomorrow.
