Grahamstown police say a construction company has offered assistance to help fight a veldfire, and committed to fill all its water tankers should it be required in Port Alfred as well as Grahamstown. The Chief Traffic Officer of Ndlambe Municipality, Fred Cannon thanked Murray and Roberts for being prepared to assist the community, as well as that of Makana by availing these vehicles should the need arise.
Local firefighters as well as SANDF personnel worked through the night to contain the fire.
Police Spokesperson Captain Mali Govender says they received some reports this morning of a few patches of fire in certain areas. They are managing that as well.She says there was no report of any damage to property.
