A 27-year-old woman is in police custody in George after she was arrested for the possession of drugs at a roadblock on the N9.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Christopher Spies says members of the Rural Flying Squad were conducting a vehicle checkpoint on the road between Oudtshoorn and George on Wednesday afternoon when a minibus taxi was pulled over.
He says while searching the vehicle they found two Jungle Oats cereal boxes that had clearly been tampered with.
Further investigation revealed that the boxes were packed with Mandrax and Tik.
Sergeant Spies says police confiscated 304 Mandrax tablets, 300 grams of Tik and an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be proceeds from the illicit drug trade.
The street value of the drugs has been put at R120 000.
The woman was arrested on the spot and will appear in the George Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
