Police in Gqeberha have cautioned homeowners and tenants to not make illegal connections to municipal electricity supply grids.
Spokesperson, Captain Andre Beetge, says this after a three-year-old girl died after she was electrocuted when she picked up an electrical wire in her neighbour's yard in Kwazakhele on Wednesday.
He says the victim who was identified as Khazima Dweni and her sister were playing in Magxaki Street when the incident occurred at about 4 pm.
Beetge says she picked up the illegal electrical connection that was on the ground and was electrocuted in the process.
He says emergency medical assistance declared her at the scene.
Dweni's family later disconnected the illegal connection.
Beetge says an inquest docket was opened at Kwazakhele SAPS.
