A 35-year-old taxi driver who recently tested positive for Covid-19 has been charged with attempted murder after he was caught transporting seven passengers on the R61 in Beaufort West.
The driver received his results earlier this week after he was tested for the virus at the N2 Tsitsikamma roadblock on the 30th of April.
Police said the man was en-route to the Eastern Cape when he was stopped at the vehicle checkpoint on the R61 on Thursday.
The driver, passengers and three other persons in an accompanying vehicle, have since been transported back to Cape Town by police and traffic officials, where they are now being held in a quarantine site.
SAPS urged citizens to respect the rule of law.
After consulting with officials from the Department of Health it was decided to charge the driver with attempted murder and evading his isolation.
He will appear in court soon.
