Police in Kariega are investigating a case of reckless and negligent driving after a taxi driver injured four learners on Saturday.
The children, aged between 14 and 15, are learners at Hoërskool Brandwag and were part of a group training for the SA cross country Championships later this month.
It is alleged that a taxi driver overtook a truck when he slammed into the learners.
Police spokesperson Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg says the accident happened near the Carinus and Graaff-Reinet crossing in Kariega.
She confirmed to Algoa FM News that a reckless and negligent driving case was opened for further investigation.
The school took to social media to thank first responders, emergency personnel, local security, and concerned bystanders who rushed to their aid.
Three learners were rushed to hospital while the fourth boy did not require medical treatment.
