The Amathole District Municipality says protesters in Hogsback had disconnected the power supply to the local water works and flushed out the water from the reservoir, leaving the town dry.
The ADM says all municipal vehicles and personnel including those from Nkonkobe LM have been barred from entering the area thus leaving the communities without water. The District Municipality says its monitoring the situation and hopes it will stabilise soon.
ADM says any inconvenience caused by this unforeseen situation is deeply regretted.
On Thursday the town was virtually cut-off from the outside by the protests.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Siphokazi Mawisa said the locals were unhappy at delays in an electrical project and had waited to be adressed by a local councillor.
The situation is said to be quiet in the town Friday as residents had agreed to meet with the Municipality early next week.
