Barely three days after stealing the keys for the Paterson Post Office from his father and stealing nearly R100 000 in cash, 18-year-old Donovan Ferreira was sent to prison for 12 months.
His accomplice, 22-year-old Elroy Kleinhans, received the same sentence in the Paterson Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Police spokesperson, Captain Andre' Beetge, says the pair broke into the Post Office at about 10 pm on Friday but were arrested on Saturday afternoon and all the money recovered on Sunday morning.
He says on Monday the pair pleaded guilty and were subsequently jailed for a year.
Beetge says Motherwell Cluster Commander, Major General Dawie Rabie, praised the police for the swift conviction.
He said Rabie also had some stern words for businesses about poor security measures like safeguarding keys and not keeping large amounts of cash on the premises.
