Eastern Cape police have made a swift breakthrough in the double murder of an elderly Barkley East couple.
The bodies of Dawid and Ralie de Villiers, both in their eighties, were found by their daughter in their house on the farm Broadlands early on Wednesday morning.
Captain Ursula Roelofse says detectives arrested a 22 year-old man within 9 hours of the incident being reported to the police.
She says the suspect has been positively linked to the crime scene and hails from Barkly East Township.
Roelofse says he will appear in the Barkly East Magistrates Court soon, on charges of murder and attempted murder.
Meanwhile, the couple's son, 53 year-old Dawie de Villiers, was flown to the Mediclinic Hospital in Bloemfontein this afternoon after being seriously injured in attack .
Areocare head nurse, Karen Jansen, says De Villiers suffered multiple stab wounds and lacerations on his face and neck but is currently stable.
