Suspended Cosatu secretary general Zwelinzima Vavi says he remains committed to the cause of the working class in South Africa.
Vavi was in Port Elizabeth on Thursday in his personal capacity to support SAMWU members in their dispute with the Metro.
Vavi joined SAMWU on their march to PE City Hall to highlight the non-implementation of various agreements between the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality and workers.
Speaking on the DMB on AlgoaFM on Friday morning, Vavi said SAMWU was ready to engage with the Metro.
"When we handed over the memorandum on Thursday to the deputy mayor he promised that he will engage the mayor who is out of town, but as soon as they have something they will call the union back for negotiations and we hope that moment will arrive very soon to avoid any disruption of services that people are in need of" he said.
