Police in Kimberley nabbed four suspects on Sunday morning after a week-long operation led to their arrest.
The men aged between 30 and 40 were apprehended in their Opel Corsa where police found two pangolin skins, four canisters of mercury and one diamond in their possession.
The vehicle was also impounded by SAPS as it was used in the commission of the crime.
Pangolin is said to be the most widely trafficked mammal in the world.
Its scales are in high demand in some countries, for use in traditional medicine, despite there being no medical benefit for it.
In some countries, its meat is considered a delicacy.
The suspects will appear in the Kimberley Magistrates Court this week.
