Three suspects are being held in custody and will appear in the PE Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of vehicle hijacking.
They were arrested by Kabega Park Police and Anti-Gang Unit members earlier this week following an incident on the N2 freeway near Baywest Mall.
Colonel Naidu says that at around 11 am on Wednesday, the driver of an Iveco panel van and his passenger had just passed the Baywest turnoff when they noticed a white VW Polo alongside them.
They were ordered to pull over at gunpoint and two men then jumped into the panel van and drove off.
Colonel Naidu says Kabega Park police members spotted the VW Polo in the Greenbushes area around 2.40 pm the same day and arrested the 38-year-old driver.
His passenger ran away but a 9 mm pistol with the serial number filed off was recovered.
Around the same time, the Iveco panel van was spotted in Mission Road, Bloemendal, by Anti-Gang Unit members.
They pursued the vehicle and the driver lost control and collided with a boundary wall.
Both suspects, aged 29 and 32, tried to run away but were immediately arrested.
